Apologies

(Deep breath in........Deep breath out).

Dear all those who have supported me for four years,

Where do I begin? After looking at my family, coaches, and teammates in the eyes after such an embarrassing incident, I now have to speak to you. I guess there is no other way to start this other than to say that I apologize. I apologize for the embarrassment that was caused to the University, my family, my team, and most of all, to you. For four years you have been in my corner through thick and thin, hell and high water, and though we may have not always seen eye to eye at times, our bond has only grown stronger. I have strolled the streets of Louisville smiling wide, and trying to be nothing but a great representative of my team, family, as well as an ambassador for the city. Though I know most were disappointed, shocked, and in disbelief, I can sit here as an honest man and say that I made a mistake. Fortunately for me, this was a mistake that did not cost me my life, or anyone else's. There is no justification for what happened but I must say that I was simply trying to  to get someone else home safely (which I did). Hindsight is always 20/20 and after quite sometime for reflection, there were many other options that could have been explored but the fact of the matter is that it happened. I send my sincerest apologies to you in hopes that this won't be how you remember me. However if it is, I can only pray for your forgiveness. As for me, moving forward, I will be leaving to train to embark on a journey to hopefully better life for myself and for my family. I am joining the MADD movement as well as setting up my own engagements to speak to younger kids not only about choices, but about my journey and how they can help themselves. Despite this shameful moment, I am still proud to say that I am a graduate of the University and first in my immediate family to do so. So before I get long-winded, I just felt that it was only appropriate that I extend my sincerest apologies to all those who have been in my corner for my years at the school.. This blog wasn't prompted by anyone but my gut instinct. I feel I owe it to you all for everything that you have done for me... Welp.. I'm logging off.. My best wishes to all of you who read this... Happy New Year and may God continue to bless all of you all... Oh last, but CERTAINLY not least.... Go Cards.

  1. Mr. Scruggs, for 4 years you've given your all to the team and to this city. It takes a strong man to admit his mistakes, and a stronger man to apologize for them. You have my utmost respect. Just as you felt you owe it to us say what you have, I feel I owe it to you to personally say, thank you. Thank you for your dedication, commitment, sacrifice; thank you for representing Louisville as well as you did for 4 years. Yes you made a mistake that potentially could have ended very badly, but I applaud you for what you are doing and will do. God bless you in all that you do, I pray for blessings and success for you in the future. Allow God to continue to use you, trust in Him and know wherever you go, and whatever you do, you will always have a home in Louisville, and I as well as many others are very proud of you.

  2. You, Mr. Scruggs, are a REAL MAN. It takes courage and humility to apologize for our mistakes.
And for you to take the time to apologize to Fans.....wow. I've never seen or heard of this before.
You are what's RIGHT w/ Collegiate Athletics.

Congratulations on the Degree. I know that you're family is proud. And ALL true Cardinal Fans are proud, as well. God Blessed you and kept you safe....I pray that He continues to do so.

  3. Mr. Scruggs, you owe us no apology, but thanks for thinking of us fans anyway. The most important thing here is that no one was physically hurt or killed. Too many times we as fans fail to remember or realize that student athletes are just that...students who are athletes. We are all students of life my friend. And the world is our classroom. When we make mistakes, we learn from them and try not to make the same ones over & over. I can't speak for all fans, but you did NOT embarrass me my brother. God forgives you and thats more than good enough for me. I wish you well on all your future endeavors and I will have nothing but fond memories of you & your time here. Dude, you a Card for life so that means you'll always be one of us!!! Live well Greg & may God continue to bless & forgive!

  7. goes without saying this is a repeat of above. you have represented yourself and the university with nothing but class. we have all been young. we have all made mistakes. it's what we take away from those mistakes that makes us who we are, not the mistakes themselves! good luck in all that you do.

  8. Greg,

You will always have the love and gratitude of the Cards fans. To err is human. It says a lot of your character that you can humble yourself before God and all of us and not only admit your mistake but go above and beyond to make up for it. Congratulations on attaining your degree. We are all very proud of you.

    Wishing you the best always.

  10. G. Scruggs, everyone makes mistakes, but not everyone is man enough to apologize for those mistakes. I truly believe you will go down as a fan favorite for years to come, I know you are with me. Congrats on your degree and I hope to see you around the University in the future.
